I am so sick of it…

Yes, Atkins is good. Atkins is great. Sugar is bad, mmmkay? Live low carb lifestyle. Rock on.

But, it’s been around since the 70s? What did we do to deserve this media-blitz about Atkins now?

From the community:

Driving into work today (in Denver), I saw two business marquees referring to Low-Carb.
Tire and Auto Center: Are you Low Carb? Your car should be too! Change the oil!
Paint Store: We sell Low Carb paint thinner!

Know what? With all this Atkins crap available everywhere, tempting alternatives to high-sugar treats, etc., they’re making it just as easy to grab extra snacks and claim you’re sticking to the diet as it was when you just picked up regular candy bars on your regular diet. Alternatives are great, sure, but jeez…. the principles of Atkins were to stay away from processed, refined, fast-food…. SO, let’s saturate the market with CRAP that is processed, refined and available at a drive thru, price it double as whatever it is the alternative for, slap the name “Atkins” on it, and get rich, shall we? Meanwhile, in 10 years so-called Atkins dieters will be filing lawsuits against the new food industry for making them fat…

And yes, despite all the loathing of the low-carb fascination, I did buy a jar of Carb Smart Skippy peanut butter at the grocery store today, and was damned glad I didn’t have to go read labels in the regular peanut butter aisle for 20 minutes trying to ascertain which was least bad for me. Kind of makes it hard to be mad at the media.

But not impossible. Media popularity may be making new items available, but it’s also making affording them a chore.
