I am so very sad…

Posted in Crazy Wisdom on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 11:29 pm by flerly.

The books were only delivered Sunday, and I couldn’t make them last. I finished Labyrinth of Evil Tuesday night, and now I have just finished Revenge of the Sith. Even though they are adaptations, like the other Star Wars movie novels, they still have that extra something that means so much, which I know won’t be translated into the movie. I am sad because…the book was really good — very well put together and so plausible to connect the dots of the plot. I am sad because… the saga really is over, and even without having seen the movie, it just feels like there’s not much to look forward to. I’m surprised at how compelled I ended up being by this Anakin/Vader story-arch, despite however much images of Jar Jar made me feel embarrassed to love the genre.

Well, folks. This one has no fuzzy Ewoks. No stuffed toys here. As much as the best of the original trilogy is found in The Empire Strikes Back, here will reside the best of the new trilogy. There is frustration and torment and fire, and through it all, we will be able to see clearly from where the new hope will arise.

Is it premature to plan my upcoming original trilogy viewing party?

NEVER. You tel me the day and I’ll be there, or I’ll clean house and everyone can come over. If things go well, I’ll watch I and II go see III in the theater come home and then see IV, V, and VI. Its going to be a long haul, but hey, that’s what Jolt, Red Bull, Starbucks, and Powerbars are for right?

    …did someone say nachos?

That can be the plan, or sorts.

But, I am a firm believer that the movies are best watched in the order released, So I’d marathon, IV, V, VI, I and II then go see three and then go home and get very depressed until I pull out the storage box full of books to keep the Star Wars dream alive.

I realize the plots don’t go in that order, but I and II were clearly adapted into movies with elements from IV, V, and VI in mind, and thus become more meaningful after viewing those first.

At least, that’s my horribly Star Wars sentimental two-cents worth.

Funny, I thought I heard someone say popcorn and junior mints. Weird.
