Donnie Darko :The Director’s Cut
So, the re-release of Donnie Darko is only playing at the Lefont Plaza Theatre on Ponce, which apparently, according to
“Richard Kelly’s revamped version of his creepy, cool debut is neither a bold revelation nor a bland over-elaboration.”
This re-release … is a little piece of lagniappe made for the festival circuit and die-hards. The good news is that, unlike many director’s cuts, it’s neither indulgent nor impenetrable. Donnie’s plight is now slightly better explained — especially his link with centenarian Roberta Sparrow (Patience Cleveland), an elderly recluse who, once upon a time, wrote a bizarre book called The Philosophy of Time Travel.
If this longer film explains things more fully, it thankfully doesn’t over-explain them; the original film’s fable-like, unsettled, dreamy quality is preserved. The movie also gives Kelly’s ensemble (including Patrick Swayze, Jena Malone, Noah Wyle and producer Drew Barrymore) a little more room to flex their acting muscles, and that’s to the benefit of the film.
To go or not to go. That is the question. Well, by the just posted review, seems like not.
Anyone else have any weekend plans then? Believe it or not, it looks like we’re actually going to be home this weekend.
Oh, and I guess today marks the end of the “Thornton Hostel for Unemployed IT Professionals” since

We rent her out for kid’s parties occasionally, if the price is right, but other than that she’s fairly booked.
Generally you have to provide food, booze, and games to lure her to visit. It took us a year to figure that out!

Well, if I’d known that was all it took…

We could all have game night! Or, you know, not, but it was just a thought… π

truth be told, all it really takes is booze. if i get a good amount of booze in me (less, really, if there is no food), i’m up for all sorts of games. π

that was one of my questions–we’re all so very pretty spread out.
the other question, of course, was, ‘when?’

I can drive wherever though my house is probably out on account of Giant Mess and the Boy On The Couch who will most likely be playing XBox all night. So as far as I’m concerned it is really just a matter of who is willing to be a host and whether or not everyone else is willing to drive there…
As for when… I’m leaving work in ten minutes and I think you and Kim are working from home so I’d guess Josh is the least flexible. π

i don’t mind hosting at all, as my house is relatively clean
for once. but i know that getting here is a giamungus hassle for the gang at kim’s, most of whom would probably rather eat their own toes than drive over here on a friday evening after dealing with work and work-traffic. that being said, i’ll drive anywhere for booze and games. and i am working from home today, so i’ll leave it up to the people without working-from-home rights to decide the time.September 10, 2004 @ 7:03 am

Heh. If you can take the time off work, I’ll bring booze. 9:30?

(I have band practice ’til 9, so 9:30’s probably the earliest I can get out there…)

Also, just because I can’t make it ’til later doesn’t mean y’all shouldn’t get started with the strip boggle before I arrive.

well, if you guys are thinking tonight…. later is better. The boi doesn’t get off work until 8 and then we’ll do dinner. WOuldn’t mind hooking up at Magoo’s, though. Don’t guess you’d consider tomorrow instead of today?

well, after talking to the boi, he seems to think tonight is fine, too, so long as later is okay, and he’s willing to make the drive out to the boonies.
