computer sleuthing
In another of the great, “WTF is wrong with this damned machine” moments, yesterday we put a new video card in my box, only to discover that it would now shut down about 45 seconds after it finished loading windows. It did this, of course, just in time for us to have to walk away from the problem and head off to Ben & Maggie’s wedding reception. Thus speculations abounded as to the source of the problem in our dinner conversation. The true culprit? Apparently the machine isn’t communicating with the UPS properly, it thinks it’s on backup power, and it is set to hibernate when it goes to backup power. Viola…. we turned that shit off.
Would eventually like to know what’s going on with the communcation problem with the UPS, but for now, at least the machine is on. Today we’ve spent battling the install cds for WoW. It has taken us hours to get through an install on my machine, but that is at least done and I am patching now. JamesT is still battling the cds.
So yeah… I guess we’re in. Just when almost everyone is tired of the game, we figure we’ll try it out at last… World of Warcraft, here we come. I think we have to take the highway to the dangerzone to get to the world of Warcraft, perhaps making a left turn at Albuquerque, but eventually this fucking game should be running on both of our machines.
We are slackers. Let the geek harassment begin.
Oh, before you start… NO, we don’t have a clue what characters we’re making or what our character names will be, yet.
