Monday, day two…. aka Tuesday.
My atomic sneezes, faucet of a nose, and stuffy head that made me sound so pitiful last night have moved on to the next phase, thanks to Chlor-Trimeton. Now, my head pounds and my sinus passages feel like 5 miles of bad road. I can breathe, though I admit the movement of air in my already unnaturally dry sinuses is adding to the discomfort.
Yes, it’s probably just hay fever, triggered by the amount of dust and mold I stirred up Sunday pulling all the Christmas stuff in from storage and putting up the tree. I, however, do not feel that a runny nose is the best face to put forward at a client meeting, so I called the very gracious David Rhoades to cover for me today.
One more day of rest. One hot steaming bowl of chicken soup, and all the hot tea I can drink. Hopefully this will get things under control. Maybe some curry for dinner. Hrmm.
In other news, I tossed and turned all night not only from the medicine, but in thinking about losing my job just in time for Christmas once again. This time, however, instead of just thinking how cosmically unfair that is, I was more concerned with the lack of foresight from a company who, last time they laid me off with a group, had to contract us to come back because they didn’t have anybody else trained to several tasks. In these last two years, have they managed to train someone else or are they shooting themselves in the foot again? Rather than wait and see if there is a possible contract in the future, after the tickets pile up, I decided to send a pre-emptive email about the issue. It was tough not to sound completely facetious, but damnit, if you’re the only guy who knows the combination to the safe, they can’t really shoot you to get it, right? Just wanted to remind them of that.
So, maybe in the next couple weeks they reconsider a few things, maybe they offer me a contract before I start work elsewhere, or maybe they find somebody to train up to speed in time to just let me go once and for all. Honestly, whichever path they choose doesn’t bother me.

“However, Petty-Officer Hillaire doesn’t know the combination. Millions of lives at stake here, Peter, don’t make a dumb mistake.”
“One! … Two!”

Did they lay off anyone else in Atlanta?

Not exactly a layoff… Just FNIS not renewing the agreement for the whole spinoff company that I work for to keep contracting. Rumor has it there will be individual contracts for key people offered, but the paycheck to the company as a whole who writes my paycheck is going away… and thus my paycheck goes away… Long, complicated story. FNIS didn’t lay off any FNIS employees in Atlanta, if that’s what you’re asking.
