Bootcamp – Vacation, Days 19, 20, 21 & 22

Las Vegas was a trial. Getting around without a car, trying to coordinate with people staying in a hotel blocks away, using the retarded monorail system… we walked our asses off. I have blisters on my blisters. Didn’t do a hell of a lot in the way of intentional homework-type exercise, couldn’t stick to a schedule, and the diet plan was out the window. Didn’t really eat like crap, just couldn’t eat a lot of small meals out there. It took so long to get everything coordinated that by the time we could sit down to eat, we were already starving.

Alcohol: 1 intentionally ordered mint-chocolate martini, which kicked ass and the weakest free gambling booze in the world, which was mostly diet cokes.

Sugar: well, there’s that martini again, which I think had some ice-cream in it, and a 1/2 of a chocolate covered cheesecake bar.

Not the worst I could have done, but as for food options, we won’t pick the Vegas Hilton again… hell, or the Venetian, or the Wynn… Ask JamesT about his $110 meal. We spent more on food than on gambling, yet somehow seemed to be eating so much less than usual. We all seemed hungry all the time.

On the upside, I had the energy to keep going through the hot days and long nights, which I honestly think I couldn’t have done prior to this exercise kick. On the downside, the unforeseen expense of this trip has caused me to rethink taking the 3-month deal for bootcamp. It’s just too much to spend right now.

I have four days left, then we’ll see how I can maintain this momentum with my own morning workouts.

Ok everyone,

I want to illustrate to you how vital it is to REALLY understand that muscle WEIGHS more than fat.

Our wonderful friend, student, boot camp instructor is proof positive. She made most of her gains last year when she was a boot camper — she loved it so much, she did several boot camps in a row, and aspired to become an instructor with us; which is exactly what she did. What an inspiration!!!

Here’s what Debbie says:

“I went from about a size 14 down to a 4!!! But I have only lost 5 pounds. I’m getting pretty solid at this point, which I’m really happy about. Of course it has taken me a year of working out 5-6 days per week and eating right, but at this rate, I’m fairly comfortable that it will stay off. Also, my whole lifestyle has changed! KB, running, BC, weight training, are all a part of my daily routine now, in one form or another, so I miss it if I don’t do it. I can’t tell you how empowered I feel!! It’s incredible how great it feels to push myself a little further in an area, and be successful, whether it’s running or sprinting, or whatever! We can always do more than we think we can…I think anyone can get in shape; they just have to have the “want to”. That’s the hardest part.”

OK- See? Size 14 to 4. ONLY 5 POUNDS LOST! And by the way, she looks GREAT! Same thing for me(Heidi). I broke my leg in April. 1 month later– I had lost EIGHT pounds! I almost cried! That means all that great muscle I built withered away (lack of mobility) and I was not getting any smaller!!

Some words of wisdom about the numbers on the scale from one of our boot camp friends : ” I think people are hung up on the number because they think they can control it. You cannot control the weight you gain as muscle or what it looks like because it is genetic make-up, but people think if they can control the number and they will be happy! Weight is just a number that measures the force of gravity on your body, it is has nothing to do with your muscle to fat ratio, which is the most important thing!”

Please, friends, throw that damned scale in the trash.

Have a GREAT DAY!!!
